Ships Sink in Southeast Maluku, 3 Killed 20 Missing

Jakarta - a ship accident happening again. This time a motor boat reportedly sank in the Strait, the waters of Saumlaki, West Southeast Maluku regency, Maluku Province. KM ACU carrying hundreds of passengers going home for Christmas, drowned on the way to the island of Saumlaki Sera in Southwest Moluccas.

According to Mathias Malacca, Secretary of West Southeast Maluku Regency, so far reported three passengers killed in the sinking of KM ACU afternoon. While approximately 80 people were successfully evacuated and others were being treated in a number of the nearest health center. Currently 20 other people until now still in the search.

Mathias said the cause of the sinking of KM ACU is still under investigation. Only, the provisional estimates due to bad weather. Mathias added that the weather in Saumlaki very bad since last night. Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds flushed. Even when the news was made even the rain was still flushed. High waves were reported 2.6 to 3 meters. Evacuation process is still ongoing. West Southeast Maluku Regency parties coordinate with related agencies for this evacuation process.

Related to bad weather in the surrounding waters Saumlaki, Mathias appealed to the fishermen and temporarily suspend the offender cruise shipping. Weather in Saumlaki and the surrounding area is very bad, so it is feared could lead to accidents that cause fatalities.
